I translated Jean-Marie Nicolas’ paper on second-kind statistics and log-cumulant theory from French to English during the work on my Ph.D. thesis. The paper was my most important reference, yet I do not speak (or read) French, so I used Google Translate and my knowledge of the subject to produce the translation I needed.
I expected the translation to be helpful to others and I am happy to see that many are using it. However, I wish you would follow my advice when citing it:
Please cite primarily the original paper which was published in French in Traitement du Signal. The reason is simple: Jean-Marie Nicolas will not get the honour he deserves unless you cite the original ground-breaking paper:
